Emma Woodhouse

Confession: I am at this very moment very addicted to Jane Austen. Yes, I suppose her novels are probably sappy, but her portraits of human nature and her wit are irresistible. (I hope there are some other Austen fans out there reading...)

This linocut is called Emma. She is the one that tried to play matchmaker, blundered horribly, and at the same time did not know what her own heart was about. This portrait is of course a modernized version. Here her gaze misses the heart shaped flower blooming in her lap, because she "knew not the workings of her own heart."

The PBS series now helps. Who's your favorite Austen heroine? Mine's Elinor Dashwood from Sense and Sensibility, maybe because she's a lot like me :)

I love Elinor, too.

It's like she's so distracted that she can't even see the heart in front of her. Beautiful.

I am a die-hard Austen fan. You are not alone. And I LOVE LOVE LOVE this linocut of yours. Just amazing! I've read a lot of Austen in the past but nothing recently. I need to pick something up again soon. Thanks for the inspiration! :)
